Organized in 1936, ASPT promotes research in and teaching of taxonomy, systematics, and phylogenetics of all plants. With over 1,000 members, the Society furthers its mission by publishing two journals: Systematic Botany and Systematic Botany Monographs, providing funding for research and travel, and convening annual scientific meetings.
We seek an outstanding botanist with a strong interest in developing a long-term career in effective teaching in a vibrant department at a major research university. We are looking for someone with: a PhD in Systematic Botany or related area; experience in effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels; experience and skills in the identification of plants across various lineages; experience teaching courses or workshops at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional level such as Introductory Plant Biology and Systematic Botany (or related, such as Local Flora, Dendrology, Field Botany, Aquatic and Wetland Plants, Grasses/Sedges/Rushes); excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to foster a supportive and welcoming environment.

The Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden (FWBG) seeks a highly motivated Research Botanist with a primary focus on plant systematics and complementary interests in floristics, ecology, and/or conservation. Research incorporating a combination of scientific collections, field work, and genomics is preferred. The successful candidate will maintain an active research program as measured by scientific peer-reviewed journal publications, grant-funded proposals in support of research, collections development, collaborations with colleagues, contributions to the institute’s outreach activities, and participation in the graduate programs associated with Texas Christian University (TCU) and the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), including opportunities for teaching in specialty areas. The starting date for the position is flexible; our target date is January 5, 2026.
